As with any type of training scenario, one should always question the 'Lineage' from which his or her instuctor has decended. Any 'ole person with some business background and a little bit of start up money can open a gym, and claim to be the " The Best in Town". But the sad part of all this is - it's up to the consumer, you, to be aware of this. It's basically what we like to call 'Buyer be aware'. You must be aware of your Insturtors training to ensure that he is qualified, and can teach you properly. So with all that being said... and yes we're getting to the point :) ... I would like to present to you, with great honor, our 'Lineage'.

Action MMA started a few years ago when Aaron Hullinger moved to Sioux Falls.  Since there was no Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in South Dakota, he talked with his instructor, Amilcar Cipili (Mica), about setting up an affiliate here.  Thus, Action Mixed Martial Arts was opened under the direction of Mica and as affiliate of the Rigan Machado team.  Aaron has been training Brazilian  Jiu-Jitsu since May of 1995.  He’s fluent in Portuguese and has lived in Brazil.  He trained 7 years in Utah with Pedro Sauer where he received his Purple Belt.  He’s currently a Black Belt under Rigan Machado. Mica is a 4th degree Black Belt under Rigan Machado.   Like Aaron, he started learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from Pedro Sauer.  Mica has trained with the best instructors in the world and currently teaches in Las Vegas.  He comes to Sioux Falls a couple times a year to teach his popular Seminars.

Who taught Aaron and Mica?

The one and only, Rigan Machado! Rigan (on the left) is an 8th degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu! He is also the nephew of Carlos Gracie, Sr. (the Gracie's have made Jiu Jitsu what it is today) He grew up learning BJJ from the Gracie’s! His books and videos have helped launch BJJ to its current popularity worldwide!

Who teaches BJJ now?

Our current Instructor is Cody Skidmore, he is an accomplished Purple belt who has competed in proffesional and amature events in places like NAGA in Las Vegas, Illinois and Indiana, and currently has well over 1,500 hours logged in the study of BJJ. He has personally trained under Aaron Hullinger (remember him? one of our founders - and a Black Belt), Mica, and Rigan Machado (our 8th degree Black Belt).
